Buyer Job Specification

Job Purpose

The Buyer will be in charge of managing the purchasing process to secure quality products and services at competitive prices within set deadlines. This role involves sourcing suppliers, negotiating pricing and terms, placing orders, and maintaining supplier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

• Source and procure goods, materials, equipment, and services in line with company requirements.
• Identify, evaluate, and maintain relationships with reliable suppliers.
• Obtain and compare supplier quotations to ensure competitive pricing.
• Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
• Prepare and process purchase orders accurately and timeously.
• Monitor outstanding orders and follow up with suppliers on deliveries.
• Ensure that purchased goods meet required quality standards.
• Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier records.
• Monitor stock levels and liaise with relevant departments on purchasing requirements.
• Assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities and improving procurement processes.
• Resolve supplier queries, discrepancies, and delivery issues.
• Ensure procurement activities adhere to company policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• 2-4 years' experience in a Buyer or Procurement role.
• Good knowledge of procurement processes and purchasing principles.
• Strong computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Experience with an ERP or procurement system is advantageous.
• Valid driver's licence may be required based on operational needs.
