Position Overview

An established gearbox service centre requires an experienced Engineering Draftsman (Mechanical) to produce accurate, detailed manufacturing and engineering drawings for the repair, refurbishment and manufacture of gearboxes and associated mechanical components.

The position requires a strong understanding of mechanical engineering drawings, sectional views, fits, limits, tolerances and critical dimensions. Particular emphasis will be placed on the ability to produce manufacturing drawings from existing components/samples, sketches and technical information.

Key Responsibilities

Produce detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings using Autodesk Inventor.

Prepare accurate manufacturing and workshop drawings for gearbox components and other precision mechanical equipment.

Produce detailed sectional and assembly drawings, clearly identifying critical dimensions, fits and tolerances.

Generate manufacturing drawings from physical samples, existing components, sketches and/or incomplete drawings.

Measure and interpret existing mechanical components for reverse-engineering and refurbishment purposes.

Apply appropriate engineering fits, limits, clearances and tolerances to shafts, bores, bearings, gears and mating components.

Detail gearbox internals and components such as shafts, gears, housings, bearing arrangements, covers, bushes, sleeves and related components.

Work closely with engineering, workshop and production personnel to ensure drawings are practical and suitable for manufacture, machining, assembly and repair.

Revise and maintain engineering drawings and associated technical documentation.

Technical Requirements:

The successful candidate should have sound knowledge and practical experience in:

Autodesk Inventor CAD system.

Mechanical engineering drawing and draughting principles.

Gearbox internals and mechanical power transmission equipment, preferably within a gearbox repair, manufacturing or service environment.

Fits, limits, dimensional tolerances and critical tolerance detailing.

Detailed and sectional mechanical drawings.

Manufacturing and machining drawings.

Reverse engineering and production of drawings from samples, components or sketches.

Interpretation of existing engineering and assembly drawings.

Preferred Industry Experience : Previous experience involving gearboxes and mechanical power transmission equipment will be highly advantageous.

Candidates from other precision mechanical engineering environments will also be considered where they have strong experience with critical tolerances and detailed manufacturing drawings, including:

Pumps | Valves | Crushing equipment | Milling equipment | Slewing bearings | Heavy engineering equipment

Precision machining and component manufacture

Other mechanical equipment requiring close tolerance fits and detailed sectional drawings

Key Selection Criteria:

The most important consideration will be the candidate''s demonstrated ability to produce accurate, workshop-ready mechanical drawings where fits, limits, tolerances, sectional details and manufacturing dimensions are critical.

Practical knowledge of gearbox internals and Autodesk Inventor, together with the ability to reverse-engineer components and produce manufacturing drawings from samples or sketches, will be a significant advantage.
