Job Overview

Persona Staff is recruiting on behalf of a client based in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town for a qualified and hardworking Electrical Technician to join their technical team.

Job Purpose

The Electrical Technician will support daily technical operations through inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis, installation, and repair of electrical systems and equipment to ensure uninterrupted operational performance.

The role requires strong technical troubleshooting abilities, attention to safety standards, and practical electrical expertise.

Key Duties and Responsibilities (Job Description)

The Electrical Technician will be responsible for:

Electrical Installation & Maintenance

• Installing, testing, and maintaining electrical systems and components.
• Conducting routine preventive maintenance on machinery, electrical equipment, and control systems.
• Performing inspections to identify faults, defects, and operational risks.

Fault Diagnosis & Troubleshooting

• Diagnosing electrical problems and implementing effective repair solutions.
• Troubleshooting electrical faults in machinery and production systems.
• Replacing faulty wiring, circuit breakers, switches, motors, sensors, and electrical components.

Equipment Repair & Technical Support

• Repairing electrical systems to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
• Supporting production and engineering teams with technical troubleshooting.
• Assisting in commissioning and installation of new equipment where required.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensuring compliance with:
  • Electrical safety standards
  • Company operational procedures
  • Occupational health and safety regulations
• Following lockout/tagout procedures and safe electrical practices.
• Maintaining a safe and organized working environment.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintaining maintenance logs, inspection reports, and repair documentation.
• Reporting recurring faults and recommending preventive solutions.
• Supporting equipment performance analysis and maintenance planning.

Team Collaboration

• Working closely with engineers, maintenance staff, and production teams.
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiency goals.

Required Qualifications and Education

Applicants should possess:

Minimum Education Requirements

• A Diploma, Technical Certificate, or Trade Qualification in:
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electrical Technology
  • Industrial Electronics
  • Mechatronics
  • Or a related technical discipline

Added Advantage

• A recognized Trade Test Certificate or artisan qualification.

Certifications in:

• Industrial electrical maintenance
• PLC systems
• Electrical safety compliance
• Instrumentation and automation

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2–5 years of relevant experience in:
  • Electrical maintenance
  • Industrial electrical systems
  • Manufacturing or engineering environments
  • Equipment troubleshooting and repairs
• Experience working with:
  • Electrical panels
  • Industrial machinery
  • Control systems
  • Electrical wiring and fault diagnostics

Technical Skills and Competencies

• Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
