Our client is a global medical technology company focused on improving patient outcomes through innovative medical devices and clinical solutions.

The organization partners with hospitals surgeons and healthcare professionals by providing medical technologies clinical education product demonstrations and ongoing technical support across surgical specialties.

The company is expanding its international presence and is building local commercial and clinical capabilities to support market development product adoption and long-term growth.

About the Role

Were looking for an experienced Clinical Specialist with direct surgical suture sales experience to support the companys growth in South Africa.

This is a hands-on customer-facing position combining clinical expertise with commercial responsibility. Youll work directly with hospitals surgeons operating room teams and other healthcare professionals to demonstrate and sell the companys suture portfolio provide intraoperative support deliver clinical education and accelerate product adoption.

Previous hands-on experience selling surgical sutures is a mandatory requirement. Candidates without direct suture-selling experience will not be considered.

The initial focus will be the companys suture portfolio with opportunities to support additional medical device portfolios as the business expands.

What Youll Do

Suture Sales & Market Development

  • Promote and sell the companys surgical suture portfolio to hospitals surgeons and healthcare professionals.
  • Identify new commercial opportunities and develop accounts within the assigned territory.
  • Build strong relationships with surgeons hospital decision-makers and Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).
  • Support customer acquisition product adoption and revenue growth.
  • Gather competitor intelligence market insights and customer feedback.
  • Support the expansion of the companys presence within the South African market.

Clinical & Operating Room Support

  • Provide on-site clinical support during surgical procedures including product demonstrations and intraoperative troubleshooting.
  • Support surgeons nurses and operating room teams with product usage and applications.
  • Conduct clinical product demonstrations and evaluations.
  • Support product trials and new customer onboarding.
  • Ensure healthcare professionals confidently and correctly use the companys products.

Training & Customer Relationships

  • Deliver product training and clinical education to healthcare professionals.
  • Build long-term relationships with hospitals surgeons and clinical teams.
  • Maintain regular communication with regional and international management.
  • Maintain accurate records of commercial and clinical activities.
  • Represent the company professionally during hospital visits demonstrations and customer interactions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Direct proven experience selling surgical sutures. This is a non-negotiable requirement.
  • 3 years of relevant experience in medical device sales clinical support or a closely related commercial healthcare role.
  • Experience working directly with hospitals surgeons and operating room teams.
  • Strong understanding of surgical environments and clinical workflows.
  • Experience providing product demonstrations and clinical support.
  • Strong commercial mindset with the ability to identify and develop sales opportunities.
  • Proven presentation negotiation communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Fluent/professional English for regular communication with international management.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of an assigned territory.
  • Willingness to spend significant time in the field visiting hospitals and customers.
  • Availability for frequent travel within the assigned territory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering Nursing Life Sciences Healthcare Business or a related field.
  • Experience in Wound Closure or related surgical specialties.
  • Existing relationships with surgeons hospitals distributors or healthcare professionals in South Africa.
  • Experience supporting medical device product launches or new market development.
  • Experience conducting clinical product demonstrations and professional training.

Candidates must also:

  • Be based in or able to effectively cover Johannesburg South Africa.
  • Be comfortable spending significant time in the field at hospitals and healthcare facilities.
  • Have professional/fluent English for communication with international management.
  • Be available for frequent travel.
  • Be comfortable operating independently and taking ownership of territory development.

Travel-related business expenses are managed separately according to company policy.

The selection process may include 45 interview stages with international leadership. Candidates who advance beyond the initial interview may also be asked to present a business plan covering market launch strategy and competitor analysis.

This is a hybrid highly field-based position requiring regular travel to hospitals and healthcare facilities.
