Technical Manager, Ladismith

Our client is seeking a skilled Technical Manager in Ladismith to oversee the technical and maintenance functions of a large-scale dairy farming operation. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on, solutions-driven individual who can lead technical teams, ensure the reliability of machinery and equipment, and support the smooth and efficient operation of a modern dairy farming environment.

Minimum requirements

• Matric

• Relevant technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field

• Proven experience in a Technical or Maintenance Management role, preferably within a large-scale dairy farming or agricultural environment

• Strong practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, machinery and agricultural equipment

• Experience in maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting of farm machinery, equipment, infrastructure and technical systems

• Proven ability to implement preventative and planned maintenance programmes to minimise downtime and maintain operational efficiency

• Experience in managing and supervising technical and maintenance teams, including task delegation, performance management and employee development

• Sound knowledge of technical safety, occupational health and safety practices and relevant legislation

• Strong understanding of financial and cost management, including budgets, expenditure, procurement and cost-saving opportunities

• Fluent in Afrikaans and English

• Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft PowerPoint

• Valid driver's license and own vehicle

• Must be willing to travel as required by the role and operational requirements of the farm

Duties and responsibilities

• Determine the total scope of the sections under responsibility

• Implement proper preventative maintenance systems and protect company assets

• Plan resources effectively to achieve the required outcomes

• Ensure that all safety regulations are met at all times to minimise the risk of injury or death to workers or animals

• Conduct research on new techniques or equipment that may improve efficiency or reduce costs

• Manage the finances of the areas under control by creating budgets and monitoring expenditures

• Provide leadership to employees by setting an example through hard work and dedication to the job

• Implement structure for all recurring tasks through Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on best practices to ensure consistently high quality

• Monitor activities at all times to remain on top of all actions taking place and assess whether goals will be achieved as planned within budget, standards, time schedules and safety requirements

• Recommend changes to equipment, procedures or systems to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity

• Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with both skilled and unskilled workers, particularly when work becomes more complex

• Maintain the necessary order, accuracy and discipline in all areas of responsibility

• Apply strong administrative skills, including maintaining records, inventory control and monitoring input costs
