Mid-level Print Copywriter

About the Role

• A leading South African financial services brand is looking for a senior print-focused Copywriter to own the quality and consistency of copy across all printed materials. This is not a generalist writing role – it requires someone with deep print expertise, a sharp production eye, and the ability to guide other writers working in print contexts.
• You’ll work closely with designers and production teams, write to tight specifications, and ensure every piece of print copy is brand-aligned, production-ready, and built to survive the journey from brief to final artwork.
• Due to the high volume of applications expected, candidates who have not received feedback within two weeks of applying should consider their application unsuccessful.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce clear, on-brand copy across print formats including brochures, leaflets, in-branch displays, point-of-sale materials, and magazine-style publications
• Write and fit copy within InDesign text frames, column widths, and character constraints without compromising message or brand voice
• Ensure all print copy accounts for practical production constraints – bleed areas, safe zones, font sizing, and legibility at print scale
• Act as the senior print reference point for the copywriting team – reviewing, refining, and providing guidance on print briefs
• Collaborate with designers, brand teams, and external print production partners from concept through to final artwork
• Liaise with external printers on proofing rounds, maintaining copy accuracy through every stage
• Share print-specific best practices with the team, including copy fitting, proofing standards, and working effectively in an InDesign environment
• Stay informed on print design trends, typography, and evolving standards in print communication

Requirements

• 5+ years of copywriting experience with a strong focus on print formats and brand communications
• Proven ability to write and fit copy for print, including working within InDesign from a copy and proofing perspective
• Strong portfolio showcasing print copy across multiple formats and audiences
• Solid understanding of print production processes – artwork preparation, proofing stages, and external supplier management
• Ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance to other copywriters
• Relevant degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, or related field
