E&I CAD Designer

What youll be doing

Primary Function Detailed Technical Drawing & Layout Development

• Develop and update detailed Electrical and Instrumentation drawings, including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) for MV and LV reticulations.
• Draft MV/LV switchgear general arrangements, schematic diagrams, and termination drawings.
• Produce substation and transformer bay layout design drawings.
• Generate 2D cable racking and routing layouts (with 3D modelling application where required).
• Complete comprehensive lighting designs (Relux or similar), small power layouts, earthing, and lightning protection system drawings.
• Draft network diagrams, PLC panel layouts, card and termination drawings, RIO panels, and I/O schedules.
• Prepare instrumentation location drawings, instrument power panel layouts, and general arrangement drawings.

Primary Function Engineering Support, Sizing & Quality Compliance

• Calculate MV/LV cable sizing and compile comprehensive cable schedules.
• Assist engineers with design development, layout optimization, and material take-off (MTO) documentation.
• Ensure all CAD drawings strictly comply with project requirements, technical standards, and statutory engineering codes.
• Interpret and implement engineering mark-ups accurately across all drawing packages.

Secondary Function Document Control & Site As-Builts

• Maintain and update drawing registers in alignment with established document control procedures.
• Perform site measurements and compile accurate as-built drawing updates when required.

What youll need

• Education: Relevant technical qualification (Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Drafting, or similar discipline).
• Experience: Minimum 5+ years proven experience as an E&I CAD Designer within a consulting engineering environment in the mining industry.
• Sector Background: Proven track record working directly for EPCM consultants on mining projects (site exposure is an advantage).
• Technical & Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD (essential); experience with E&I design tools such as E-Plan is a distinct advantage.
• Engineering Knowledge: Strong foundational understanding of electrical and instrumentation systems, reticulation, and plant layouts.
• Licensing & Transport: Valid drivers license and own reliable vehicle (essential).
• Competencies: High level of precision and attention to detail, strong multi-tasking and organizational skills, and effective communication and teamwork capabilities.
