SHEQ Officer

SUMMARY:
Are you passionate about creating safer workplaces, driving compliance and building a strong SHEQ culture?
An established manufacturing environment is looking for an experienced SHEQ Officer to take ownership of Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality systems while partnering with operations to continuously improve standards and reduce risk.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who can confidently operate in a high-volume manufacturing environment, influence teams on the floor and ensure that SHEQ is embedded into the day-to-day operation.

POSITION INFO:
What you’ll be responsible for:

• Implementing and maintaining the Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
• Conducting workplace inspections, HIRAs, risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Driving corrective actions and root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Why and Fishbone.
• Ensuring compliance with the OHS Act, environmental legislation and other applicable regulations.
• Managing contractor safety, safety files, permits, method statements and compliance.
• Coordinating emergency preparedness, toolbox talks and SHEQ-related training.
• Supporting ISO systems, internal/external/customer audits and ensuring findings are closed out.
• Maintaining SHEQ policies, procedures, registers, risk assessments and compliance documentation.
• Monitoring environmental initiatives including waste, recycling, hazardous waste, water and energy usage.
• Supporting quality management, CAPAs, customer complaints and non-conformance investigations.
• Monitoring SHEQ KPIs and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.

What we’re looking for:

• Grade 12.
• National Diploma in Safety, Environmental or Quality Management, or SAMTRAC.
• SACPCMP CHSO registration or working towards registration.
• Incident Investigation and Risk Assessment training.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Minimum 5 years’ SHEQ experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong experience with ISO Management Systems, internal audits, incident investigations, legal compliance and contractor management.
• Solid knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, environmental legislation, HIRA and COIDA.
• Strong report writing, documentation and Microsoft Office skills.

Industry experience that will give you the edge:
Experience within corrugated packaging, paper, paperboard, FMCG, printing or heavy manufacturing will be highly advantageous.

Additional qualifications such as ISO 45001, ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 Internal Auditor, First Aid, Fire Fighting or NEBOSH will be beneficial.
