Area Manager - Retail Betting Operations

An established and growing organisation within the betting industry is looking for a commercially driven Area Manager to take responsibility for the operational and financial performance of a portfolio of retail betting branches across Gauteng.

This is not simply an operational maintenance role. We are looking for a dynamic, hands-on Area Manager who combines strong multi-site retail leadership with a genuine commercial and sales mindset.

You will be responsible for driving betting turnover, revenue growth and profitability across your portfolio while ensuring branches operate efficiently, deliver excellent customer service and comply with all relevant operational and regulatory requirements.

The right person will be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, someone who identifies opportunities, takes action and holds Branch Managers accountable for delivering results.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the commercial and operational performance of a portfolio of retail betting branches.
• Drive consistent growth in betting turnover, revenue and branch profitability.
• Monitor daily, weekly and monthly branch performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Identify underperforming branches and develop and implement effective recovery plans.
• Drive sales strategies, promotions and local initiatives to increase foot traffic and betting activity.
• Identify opportunities to increase revenue per customer and improve betting product mix.
• Conduct regular branch visits and operational audits.
• Lead, coach and performance-manage Branch Managers.
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels, productivity and operational standards across the portfolio.
• Monitor operational costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiencies and profitability.
• Ensure effective cash management, reconciliation processes and internal controls.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, gambling regulations, licensing requirements, FICA and POPIA.
• Drive high standards of customer service and implement initiatives that improve customer loyalty and retention.
• Identify new revenue opportunities, potential locations and local partnership opportunities.
• Monitor competitor activity and adapt local strategies accordingly.

Requirements

• National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Business Administration
• 4–5 years’ operations management experience within a customer-facing or retail environment.
• 4–5 years’ experience managing multiple locations, branches or departments.
• Strong commercial understanding of revenue, costs, margins and profitability.
• Proven experience driving customer satisfaction and retention.
• Strong people leadership and performance management capability.
• A proactive, entrepreneurial and commercially driven approach.
• Comfortable working with targets and being held accountable for commercial results.
• Knowledge of the betting and gambling industry, including betting products.
• Understanding of FICA and POPIA requirements.
• Computer literate.
• Valid Code 08 driver’s licence.
• Gambling Board licence.
