Control Systems Engineer – Pretoria

We are recruiting on behalf of an established system integrator delivering industrial automation and control solutions, with a strong footprint in the mining sector. They are looking for an experienced Control Systems Engineer to lead projects from solution design and system architecture through PLC/SCADA development, testing, commissioning and ongoing client support.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Design cost-effective control system solutions that meet client requirements
• Prepare detailed designs of approved solutions and oversee their development
• Design system architecture for control software implementations
• Design industrial communication networks, including Ethernet, fibre and Profinet
• Develop PLC programs to client specifications
• Develop SCADA and HMI applications to client specifications
• Develop simulation applications for testing and training purposes
• Test solutions to make sure they are fully functional before implementation
• Implement complete solutions on client sites and optimise system performance
• Train and support clients so they can operate systems within design constraints
• Provide post-project system support as required
• Be available for standby duties under client service level agreements

Experience & Qualifications

• Degree, technical diploma or NQF equivalent in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering
• At least 5 years’ operational and control system design experience, including exposure to relevant design software
• Knowledge of international control system specifications and standards
• PLC and SCADA experience on Rockwell and Siemens platforms
• Experience with Schneider Control Expert and AVEVA System Platform (Wonderware); AVEVA certification is advantageous
• Exposure to the mining industry
• Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act
