Winding Engine Driver

Our client is seeking a Winding Engine Driver to join the Mining Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation of winding equipment used to hoist and lower personnel, materials and ore within the shaft, while monitoring winder operations and identifying electrical and mechanical faults.

The role requires compliance with applicable operating procedures, the Mine Code of Practice and relevant legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely hoist personnel, materials and ore up and down the shaft.
• Physically operate the winding engine to hoist and lower personnel, materials and ore in compliance with the Minerals Act.
• Record the condition of the winding engine daily.
• Ensure the safe movement of personnel and materials in a conveyance or ship.
• Transmit and respond appropriately to operational signals.
• Complete the driver's logbook daily, recording stoppages and the reasons for them.
• Advise and make recommendations to the Banksman and Cage Attendant regarding the simplification of work during shifts.
• Determine and verify load weights against lifting capacities to prevent overloading.
• Verify the weight of loads before lifting.
• Inspect and test the winder for legal compliance.
• Conduct general and mini risk assessments.
• Identify and respond to electrical and mechanical faults affecting winder operations.
• Prepare shift operations reports, including breakdowns and productivity levels, and report relevant information to stakeholders at the end of each shift.
• Work in accordance with the Mine Code of Practice and report any observed non-compliance.
• Perform other duties that may reasonably be required from time to time.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 Certificate or relevant educational qualification.
• Valid AC and DC Winding Engine Driver's Certificate.
• Valid Onsetter's Certificate.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Basic computer literacy, including the ability to interpret messages displayed on the driver's display screen.
• Willingness and ability to work rotational shifts, overtime and standby, and to attend call-outs when required.
