Our client in the Engineering Industry is seeking to employ a Red Seal Boilermaker to join their team. Please note that this is a fixed-term contract.

Duties & Responsibilities
Fabrication and Assembly:
- Assemble boilers, tanks and structural steel components.
- Operate fabrication machinery: plate shears, punch presses, bending rolls to shape and prepare steel materials.
- Perform precision welding and fitting.
- Conduct equipment inspections and report defects requiring further attention.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards and inspection reports.
- Maintain welding machines, tools and fabrication equipment in safe working condition.
- Ensure completed maintenance work areas are left safe, clean and free of hazards.
- Interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, isometric drawings and fabrication plans.
Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform preventative and breakdown maintenance on industrial plant, machinery, tanks, vessels, piping and structural equipment.
- Inspect equipment and identify cracks, corrosion, wear, leaks and structural damage.
- Carry out fabrication, repairs and modifications of steel structures, platforms, supports, frames, chutes, hoppers, tanks, pressure vessels, etc.
- Perform welding repairs using MIG/MAG, TIG, ARC/MMA and other applicable welding processes.
- Repair and replace damaged or worn piping, flanges, brackets, supports and fittings.
- Fabricate components and replacement parts according to drawings, measurements and specifications.
- Carry out cutting, grinding, gouging, drilling, bending and shaping of various metals.
- Repair and maintain pressure vessels, tanks, boilers and associated structures and equipment where, authorized and within applicable procedures.
- Assist with shutdown maintenance and plant turnaround projects.
- Remove, repair and reinstall mechanical components and structures safely.
- Ensure welds and repairs meet required quality, safety and engineering standards.
Safety Compliance:
- Follow strict safety protocols and industry standards, such as OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Act) regulations.
- Conduct pressure and leak tests on vessels to verify structural integrity and compliance.
- Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to workplace safety guidelines.
Welding and Cutting:
- Use specialized welding techniques, such as TIG, MIG, or arc welding, to join metal components.
- Operate cutting tools and machines, such as plasma cutters, oxy-fuel torches, and grinders to shape materials.
Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose mechanical or structural issues with boilers and vessels and determine appropriate solutions.
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to resolve technical challenges.
Material Handling and Preparation:
- Select and prepare the appropriate materials for fabrication, including cutting, bending and shaping metal components.
- Ensure proper alignment and fit of materials before welding or assembly.
Quality Assurance:
- Conduct quality checks during and after fabrication to ensure accuracy and durability.
- Document and report defects or deviations from specifications.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other trades, such as pipefitters, welders and engineers, to complete projects efficiently.
- Provide progress updates and maintain clear communication with supervisors and project managers.
Site Preparation and Installation:
- Prepare job sites for installation by ensuring necessary equipment and tools are available.
- Install boilers, tanks and pressure vessels securely and ensure proper connections to piping systems.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated on advancements in welding techniques, materials, and safety standards.
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge of industry practices.
Experience & Qualification
- 3- 5 years’ experience in related field.
- National Senior Certificate (Matric).
- Red Seal Certification in Boiler making.
- Good communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Must be able to perform work duties on his/her own or in a team.
- Must perform duties according to the Health and Safety standards.
