Senior Mine Planner - Open Pit Operations

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mine Planner to join their dynamic team in Pretoria . This role is crucial for developing and optimizing short-term and long-term mine plans for their open-pit operations, ensuring efficient extraction of resources while adhering to safety and environmental standards. You will work closely with operational teams, geologists, and engineers to translate geological models into actionable mining schedules. The successful candidate will have a strong analytical ability and a deep understanding of mine planning software, playing a key role in maximizing the economic value of the company's mineral assets in Gauteng .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage detailed short-term and long-term mine plans for open-pit operations.
• Utilize mine planning software (e.g., MineSight, Deswik) to create optimized pit designs, access routes, and production schedules.
• Collaborate with geological teams to integrate resource models and geological data into mine plans.
• Work closely with operations and engineering departments to ensure plans are practical and achievable.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects or expansions.
• Monitor progress against the plan, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in mine planning , specifically within open-pit environments.
• Proficiency in leading mine planning software packages and 3D modeling.
• Strong understanding of mining methods , equipment capabilities, and operational constraints.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex geological and survey data.
• Knowledge of South African mining regulations and environmental best practices.
