Senior Mining Engineer - Planning

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mining Engineer with a focus on mine planning to join their team in Pretoria . This role involves developing short, medium, and long-term mine plans that ensure safe, efficient, and economically viable extraction of resources. You will work closely with operational teams, geologists, and other stakeholders to translate geological models into actionable mine designs. This hybrid position offers the flexibility to work remotely on certain days while maintaining crucial on-site collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize detailed mine plans, including production schedules, reserve modeling, and mine design layouts.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new projects and mine expansions.
• Collaborate with geological and operational teams to integrate geological data into mine planning processes.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
• Utilize advanced mine planning software to simulate and evaluate different mining scenarios.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers and site personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in mine planning and design, preferably in underground mining or open-pit operations.
• Proficiency in industry-standard mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac).
• Strong understanding of geological principles, resource estimation, and mine economics.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently, managing time across Pretoria office and remote workdays.
