Payroll Accountant

About the Role

Our client is looking for a meticulous Payroll Accountant to join their team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape . This role is essential for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, maintaining compliance with labour laws and tax regulations. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the payroll cycle, from data input to final disbursement and reconciliation, within a hybrid work model that balances office presence with remote flexibility. This position is key to employee satisfaction and regulatory adherence within the finance department.

Key Responsibilities

• Process weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly payroll accurately and efficiently.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant payroll tax laws and statutory deductions.
• Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve any discrepancies.
• Manage employee data, including new hires, terminations, and changes in employment status.
• Prepare and distribute payroll reports to management and relevant departments.
• Liaise with HR and external bodies regarding payroll-related matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in payroll accounting and administration.
• Strong knowledge of South African payroll regulations, PAYE, and UIF.
• Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., Sage Payroll, VIP) and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data confidentiality.
• Effective communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
