Senior Health and Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Health and Safety Officer to champion safety initiatives within their Oil & Gas operations located in Nelspruit . This role is fundamental to ensuring a safe working environment for all employees and contractors, implementing and enforcing robust safety protocols. You will be responsible for conducting safety audits, investigating incidents, and promoting a strong safety culture across the site. The ideal candidate possesses deep knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations pertinent to the industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems.
• Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
• Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international health and safety legislation.
• Promote a positive safety culture through proactive engagement and communication with all levels of staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the Oil & Gas sector .
• Possession of relevant professional certifications (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH).
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigation techniques.
• Strong communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a demanding environment.
