Research Assistant - Genomics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Assistant with a focus on Genomics to join their laboratory in Polokwane . This role is crucial for supporting ongoing research projects, executing experiments, and maintaining laboratory operations. You will work closely with senior scientists to conduct genomic analyses, process samples, and manage experimental data. Key Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of molecular biology and genomic laboratory techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, and library preparation for sequencing.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including sequencers and automated liquid handlers.
• Assist in the design and execution of experiments under the guidance of senior researchers.
• Accurately record experimental data, maintain laboratory notebooks, and contribute to data analysis.
• Manage laboratory inventory, order supplies, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• Prepare reagents and solutions according to established protocols.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related life science field.
• 1-2 years of hands-on experience in a research laboratory setting, preferably with a focus on genomics.
• Proficiency in basic molecular biology techniques.
• Familiarity with genomic analysis methods is a plus.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow complex protocols accurately and work effectively as part of a team.
