Mining Engineer - Ventilation Specialist

About the Role

Our client seeks a highly specialized Mining Engineer with a focus on Ventilation to join their significant operations in Rustenburg . You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring mine ventilation systems to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all personnel. This critical role involves complex airflow modeling, dust and gas control strategies, and optimizing energy efficiency within the mine's environmental systems. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of mine atmospheric conditions, and a proactive approach to environmental health and safety in underground mining.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage mine ventilation systems, including fan selection and network analysis.
• Monitor and analyze underground air quality, temperature, and humidity levels.
• Develop and implement strategies for controlling dust, fumes, and other airborne contaminants.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations pertaining to mine ventilation.
• Optimize ventilation system performance for energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct risk assessments related to ventilation failures and emergency response planning.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, with a specialization in ventilation or environmental engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mine ventilation engineering, preferably in deep-level or hard rock mining.
• Proficiency in mine ventilation simulation software (e.g., Ventsim, VentGraph).
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mine atmospheric science.
• Experience with gas detection systems and environmental monitoring equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and leadership potential.
