Job description
Our client is seeking a dedicated Literacy Intervention Specialist to join their supportive educational team in East London. This role is focused on identifying students who are experiencing difficulties with reading and writing, and providing targeted, evidence-based interventions to improve their literacy skills. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and other support staff to create a comprehensive literacy support system. The ideal candidate is passionate about literacy development and committed to helping students achieve academic success in the Eastern Cape.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct diagnostic assessments to identify students' literacy strengths and weaknesses.
- Develop and implement individualized and small-group intervention plans for struggling readers and writers.
- Utilize research-based literacy strategies and multi-sensory approaches.
- Monitor student progress through ongoing assessments and document outcomes effectively.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide strategies and support for literacy instruction.
- Communicate regularly with parents about their child's progress and provide resources for home support.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Education, Literacy Studies, or a related field; a Master's degree or specialized certification in Reading/Literacy is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in literacy instruction or intervention.
- In-depth knowledge of reading and writing development, and various literacy intervention strategies.
- Proficiency in administering and interpreting literacy assessments.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents in East London.
