In-House Counsel - Technology Law

Our client is searching for a sharp and innovative In-House Counsel with a specialization in Technology Law to join their forward-thinking legal team. This is a fully remote role, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa, supporting a global tech-focused company. You will provide critical legal guidance on intellectual property, data privacy, software licensing, and emerging technologies. This position demands a proactive legal professional who can navigate the complexities of the digital landscape and contribute to the company's technological advancements and legal strategy in a dynamic, remote operational setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise on intellectual property matters, including patent, trademark, and copyright protection and enforcement.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations such as POPIA and GDPR, managing data processing agreements.
• Draft, review, and negotiate software licensing agreements, SaaS contracts, and technology procurement agreements.
• Provide legal support for product development, including assessing legal risks associated with new technologies and features.
• Assist in managing intellectual property portfolios and prosecuting IP rights globally.
• Stay abreast of legal developments in technology, data privacy, and e-commerce, and advise the business accordingly.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney with 5+ years of experience, with a significant focus on technology law and IP.
• Proven expertise in software licensing, data privacy (POPIA/GDPR), and IP protection.
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex technology-related contracts.
• Strong understanding of emerging technologies and their legal implications.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
• Comfortable working autonomously in a fully remote, fast-paced environment.
