About the Role

Our client is seeking a knowledgeable Drilling Fluids Specialist to provide expert support for their drilling operations in the Polokwane area and potentially remote sites. This role is critical for ensuring the optimal performance and safety of drilling fluid systems, which are essential for efficient well construction. You will be responsible for managing fluid properties, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring cost-effective fluid programs. This position offers a hands‑on role within the oil and gas exploration and production sector , requiring a deep understanding of fluid chemistry and its application in challenging drilling environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize drilling fluid systems (muds) to meet specific wellbore requirements.
• Perform regular testing and analysis of drilling fluid properties, ensuring they meet required specifications.
• Provide on-site technical support and troubleshooting for drilling fluid-related issues.
• Develop drilling fluid programs in coordination with drilling engineers.
• Monitor fluid inventory, manage chemical supplies, and control fluid costs.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations regarding drilling fluid disposal and handling.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Drilling Fluids Engineer or Specialist in the oil and gas industry.
• Strong understanding of drilling fluid chemistry, rheology, and properties.
• Familiarity with various types of drilling fluid systems (water-based, oil-based, synthetic-based).
• Experience with fluid testing equipment and procedures.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, field‑based environment.
