Control Systems Engineer - Mining Energy

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Control Systems Engineer to enhance the efficiency and reliability of energy management within the extensive mining operations in Rustenburg . This role is crucial for optimizing power distribution, automation, and monitoring systems to ensure safe and cost-effective energy utilization. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining advanced control systems that integrate with various mining equipment and energy sources. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in industrial automation, SCADA systems, and a keen understanding of the unique challenges presented by the mining environment. This position requires hands-on involvement and presence at the operational sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement SCADA and PLC-based control systems for energy management and automation within mining facilities.
• Configure, test, and commission industrial control hardware and software, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain system documentation, including P&IDs, control narratives, and functional design specifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to control systems, sensors, and actuators to minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineering teams to optimize energy consumption and improve operational efficiency.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in industrial automation and control technologies relevant to the mining energy sector.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in control systems engineering, with a focus on industrial automation.
• Proficiency in programming various PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell) and HMI/SCADA software.
• Strong understanding of instrumentation, sensors, and power distribution systems in an industrial setting.
• Experience with networking protocols used in industrial control environments is essential.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to safety and operational excellence in a mine site environment.
