About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Construction Health and Safety Officer to ensure a safe and healthy working environment on their project sites in Pretoria . You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive health and safety programs to comply with all relevant legislation and company policies. This role is critical for preventing accidents and ensuring the well-being of all personnel on site. The ideal candidate is proactive, vigilant, and committed to fostering a strong safety culture throughout the construction process in the Gauteng province.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage the site-specific Health and Safety Plan
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Provide health and safety training and toolbox talks to site personnel and subcontractors
- Ensure that all safety equipment is available, maintained, and used correctly
- Maintain all required health and safety records and documentation, including registers and reports
Requirements
- Registered as a Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO) with a recognized professional body (e.g., SAIOSH)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction health and safety management
- Thorough knowledge of South African OHS Act and relevant construction regulations
- Strong understanding of risk assessment, incident investigation, and emergency preparedness
- Excellent communication, leadership, and enforcement skills
