Environmental Health and Safety Officer

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Health and Safety Officer to manage safety protocols and environmental compliance for operations in Mossel Bay . This role is crucial for ensuring a safe working environment, minimizing risks, and upholding environmental regulations across the organization. You will be responsible for developing and implementing EHS policies, conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, and promoting a strong safety culture. The ideal candidate will be proactive, knowledgeable, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of occupational health and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs and policies.


• Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.


• Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents, recommending and implementing preventative measures.


• Develop and deliver EHS training programs to all levels of staff.


• Ensure compliance with all local, national, and international EHS regulations and standards.


• Maintain detailed EHS records, reports, and documentation for auditing purposes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.


• Professional certification (e.g., NEBOSH, OHSAS/ISO 45001) is highly desirable.


• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in EHS management.


• Strong understanding of relevant legislation and best practices in occupational health and environmental management.


• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.


• Proficiency in EHS management systems and reporting tools.
