Process Development Chemical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an innovative Process Development Chemical Engineer to join their team in Polokwane . This role focuses on the research, development, and scale-up of novel chemical processes, ensuring they are efficient, safe, and economically viable. You will work on exciting projects that push the boundaries of chemical technology, collaborating with R&D and production teams. The hybrid nature of this role allows for focused work on-site and flexible remote engagement, providing a balanced approach to demanding project work in a thriving industry hub.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimization of new chemical processes from laboratory scale through to pilot and commercial scale.
• Conduct feasibility studies, define process parameters, and evaluate equipment requirements for new processes.
• Perform Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations during development stages.
• Utilize process simulation software to model and optimize process designs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D chemists, engineers, and manufacturing personnel, to ensure smooth technology transfer.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges encountered during process development and scale-up activities.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering . 5+ years of experience in process development, scale-up, and optimization within the chemical industry.
• Strong knowledge of chemical reaction engineering, separation processes, and process safety management .
• Proficiency in process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen Plus).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
