About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Loan Underwriter to join their team in Paarl . This crucial role involves evaluating loan applications to determine risk and ensure compliance with lending policies and regulatory standards. You will analyze borrower financials, credit histories, and collateral to make informed decisions that protect the bank's assets. This position offers a challenging opportunity within the Western Cape's Banking & Finance sector, contributing to sound lending practices and financial stability.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze loan applications, including credit reports, financial statements, and supporting documentation.
• Assess the creditworthiness of borrowers and determine the level of risk associated with each loan.
• Ensure all loan decisions comply with the bank's underwriting guidelines, policies, and relevant regulations.
• Communicate with loan officers and applicants to gather necessary information and explain underwriting decisions.
• Monitor the loan portfolio for risk, identifying any emerging trends or potential issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in loan underwriting, credit analysis, or a related banking role.
• Strong understanding of credit principles, financial analysis, and lending regulations.
• Proficiency in using underwriting software and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
