Senior Chemical Engineer - Petrochemicals

About the Role

Our client is looking for a seasoned Senior Chemical Engineer with specialized experience in the petrochemical sector to join their team in Richards Bay . In this critical role, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of complex petrochemical processes, ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. You will provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on large‑scale projects. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of new petrochemical processes and modifications to existing units.
• Oversee process simulation, modeling, and economic evaluation for capital projects.
• Develop and enforce stringent safety protocols, including conducting HAZOP and risk assessments.
• Optimize plant operations to maximize product yield, energy efficiency, and minimize environmental impact.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and R&D teams to resolve complex technical issues.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering .
• Over 8 years of experience in the petrochemical industry, with a strong focus on process engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of petrochemical reactions , unit operations, and process control strategies.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., HYSYS, Aspen Plus) and advanced troubleshooting techniques.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities and excellent project management skills.
