Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Civil Infrastructure

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly qualified Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead their Civil Infrastructure projects in the vibrant region of Stellenbosch, Western Cape . This role focuses on the investigation, analysis, and design of foundations and earthworks for large-scale projects, including buildings, bridges, and transportation networks. You will manage a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians, ensuring the highest standards of technical delivery and project management. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, and foundation design, contributing to the development of resilient and sustainable infrastructure in the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical site investigations, including planning, supervision, and interpretation of field and laboratory testing data.
• Perform detailed analysis of soil behavior, slope stability, settlement, and seismic response for complex civil engineering structures.
• Design foundations (shallow and deep), retaining walls, and earthworks, ensuring safety, economy, and constructability.
• Manage geotechnical aspects of multiple projects simultaneously, overseeing project schedules, budgets, and client liaison.
• Review and approve geotechnical reports, calculations, and drawings prepared by the team.
• Provide expert technical advice and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related Civil Engineering discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on civil infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation design, and ground improvement techniques.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar.
• Experience in managing project teams and client relationships.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration or eligibility is highly desirable.
