Senior Metallurgist - Mining Processes

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Metallurgist to enhance their processing operations in Stellenbosch . This role is integral to optimizing the recovery of valuable minerals, ensuring efficient and cost-effective processing techniques. You will conduct research, implement new technologies, and troubleshoot complex metallurgical challenges. The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional with a deep understanding of mineral processing, hydrometallurgy, and pyrometallurgy, committed to driving innovation and improving operational performance within the dynamic mining industry .

Key Responsibilities

• Optimize existing mineral processing circuits (e.g., crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching) to maximize recovery and minimize costs.
• Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale test work to evaluate new processing methodologies and reagents.
• Analyze metallurgical data, identify process bottlenecks, and implement solutions for improvement.
• Provide technical expertise and support to plant operations personnel.
• Develop and maintain process control strategies to ensure consistent product quality.
• Stay abreast of technological advancements in metallurgy and mineral processing.

Requirements

• A Master's or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in mineral processing and metallurgy , with a strong focus on the mining sector .
• Proficiency in metallurgical accounting, process modeling, and simulation software.
• Experience with various commodities and processing techniques.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
