Construction Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client requires a dedicated and vigilant Construction Safety Officer to ensure the highest standards of health and safety are maintained on their construction sites in Port Elizabeth . This role is crucial for preventing accidents, minimizing risks, and ensuring compliance with all relevant safety legislation and company policies. You will conduct regular inspections, provide safety training, and investigate any incidents that occur. The ideal candidate will be proactive, possess excellent observational skills, and be passionate about creating a safe working environment for all personnel involved in the construction projects within the Eastern Cape. This is an essential on-site role focused on safeguarding lives and assets throughout the project duration in Port Elizabeth .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive health and safety plans for construction sites in Port Elizabeth .
• Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Deliver safety training and toolbox talks to construction workers and site personnel.
• Ensure all site personnel have the necessary safety equipment and are using it correctly.
• Maintain accurate safety records and documentation, including risk assessments and safety permits.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification or certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., SAMTRAC, NEBOSH).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry.
• In-depth knowledge of South African health and safety legislation (e.g., OHS Act, Construction Regulations).
• Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong ability to identify and assess risks in a construction environment.
