Soil Scientist - Agricultural Land Assessment

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly qualified Soil Scientist to join their environmental consulting team, focusing on agricultural land assessment and management, with a primary focus on the Limpopo province. This remote role involves analyzing soil properties, assessing land suitability for various agricultural purposes, and developing strategies for soil conservation and improvement. You will play a key role in advising clients on sustainable land use, helping them maximize productivity while minimizing environmental impact. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced soil scientist to contribute to responsible land management practices through remote analysis and client consultation.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive soil analyses , including physical, chemical, and biological properties.
• Assess land suitability for different agricultural crops and farming systems.
• Develop recommendations for soil fertility management, erosion control, and land rehabilitation.
• Utilize remote sensing data and GIS tools for large-scale soil mapping and analysis.
• Prepare detailed reports and present findings to clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Stay updated on the latest research and technologies in soil science and land management.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Soil Science, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in soil characterization, land evaluation, and agricultural assessments.
• Expertise in soil chemistry , physics, and interpretation of laboratory data.
• Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and remote sensing applications.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills for remote client communication.
• Ability to work independently and manage projects effectively in a remote work environment, with an understanding of agricultural practices relevant to Limpopo .
