Job Overview

The Data Privacy Officer will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of privacy policies and procedures that comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), GDPR, and other relevant regulations. This role is critical in ensuring that AB InBev South Africa’s data handling practices meet the highest standards of confidentiality, integrity, and availability.Working closely with the Legal, IT, and Business Units, the Data Privacy Officer will conduct privacy impact assessments, oversee data subject request handling, and provide expert guidance on emerging privacy trends. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive privacy policies aligned with POPIA, GDPR, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) for new projects, systems, and third‑party engagements.
  • Manage data subject access requests (DSARs) and ensure timely, accurate responses.
  • Monitor and audit data processing activities to identify and mitigate privacy risks.
  • Provide privacy guidance and counsel to business units, IT, Legal, and senior leadership.
  • Lead incident response for data breaches, including investigation, reporting, and remediation.
  • Prepare and deliver regular privacy training and awareness programs for employees.
  • Stay abreast of evolving privacy regulations and advise on necessary policy updates.
  • Report privacy metrics, incidents, and compliance status to the Board and executive team.
  • Collaborate with external regulators and auditors during inspections and assessments.

Required Skills

  • In‑depth knowledge of POPIA, GDPR, and other global privacy frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for diverse stakeholder engagement.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and drive compliance initiatives.
  • Experience with privacy‑by‑design principles and data mapping tools.
  • Familiarity with information security standards such as ISO 27001.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Project management experience, preferably with certification (PMP, PRINCE2).

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as CIPP/SA, CIPM, or ISO 27701 are highly desirable and will be considered an asset.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in data privacy, compliance, or information security roles, preferably within a multinational corporation or regulated industry. Demonstrated experience managing privacy programs and conducting PIAs is essential.

Salary

The role offers a competitive salary range of R600,000 to R900,000 per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
