Town Planner

About the Role

Our client is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Town Planner to contribute to sustainable urban development initiatives in East London . This role involves analyzing development proposals, assessing their impact on the urban environment, and ensuring compliance with regional and national planning policies. You will play a vital role in shaping the future landscape of the region, working collaboratively with developers, government officials, and community stakeholders. This hybrid position allows for effective engagement within the office and the flexibility to work remotely.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate development applications, rezoning requests, and land use applications.
• Prepare planning reports, recommendations, and presentations for approval authorities.
• Conduct site inspections and feasibility studies for proposed developments.
• Ensure all proposals comply with the Spatial Development Frameworks (SDFs) and relevant legislation in the Eastern Cape .
• Consult and liaise with clients, government departments, and the public regarding planning matters.
• Contribute to the development and review of local planning policies and strategies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Town and Regional Planning, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in town planning or urban development.
• Thorough understanding of South African planning legislation (e.g., SPLUMA) and policy frameworks.
• Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, research, and report-writing skills.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills for a hybrid work environment.
