Estimator (Africa Operations) - Kempton Park, Gauteng (with travel to other territories/project locations as required) - Salary Market Related About the Opportunity A leading construction and engineering group is seeking a mid-career, tech-savvy Estimator to join the Head Office team in Kempton Park. This role serves as part of a planned succession strategy to work alongside and eventually take over from a Senior Estimator over the next 3 to 5 years. The ideal candidate is a multi-disciplinary professional with experience in both Roads & Earthworks (R&E) and Building projects. Managing Directors are looking for a forward-thinking professional who embraces digital transformation, modern technology, and advanced software to streamline estimating processes. Key Responsibilities - Prepare detailed, accurate, and competitive tender estimates for large-scale and multi-disciplinary construction projects across Africa. - Build complete cost models covering direct labor, plant, materials, preliminaries, and indirect overheads. - Evaluate tender documents, technical drawings, scope specifications, and subcontractor queries. - Collaborate with Commercial, Engineering, Procurement, and Operations teams to ensure pricing aligns with company risk and governance policies. - Leverage modern digital tools and technology to improve speed, cost intelligence, and accuracy in bid submissions. - Perform value engineering and risk assessments during early tender stages. - Travel periodically to project sites and regional territories as required. Requirements & Qualifications - Education: Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or Civil/Structural Engineering. - Experience: 58 years experience in an estimating role, alongside 58 years of direct on-site construction experience. - Discipline Expertise: Multi-disciplinary background covering Roads & Earthworks (R&E) as well as general Building projects. - Technical & Software Skills: Proven proficiency in CCS (Candy), Buildsmart, and advanced MS Excel. High adaptability toward modern estimating technologies and digitisation. - Contracts Knowledge: Strong working familiarity with standard conditions of contract (FIDIC, NEC, JBCC). - Mobility: Willingness and ability to travel across project sites and regional offices.
