Mining Engineer - Open Pit Operations

About the Role

Our client is seeking a qualified and results-oriented Mining Engineer to join their operational team in the Cape Town region, focusing on open-pit mining strategies. You will be responsible for mine planning, design, and execution to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of resources. This role involves close collaboration with site operations, geologists, and environmental teams to optimize production and resource utilization. You will play a critical part in the success of ongoing mining activities, contributing to operational excellence and continuous improvement within the company's strategic mining footprint.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop short-term and long-term mine plans, including pit design, scheduling, and production targets.
• Oversee daily mining operations, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and production plans.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects or expansions.
• Optimize mine design and operational parameters to maximize resource recovery and minimize costs.
• Manage and supervise mining crews and equipment operators to achieve operational goals.
• Implement best practices in mine safety, environmental management, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in open-pit mining operations and planning.
• Proficiency with mine planning software such as Deswik, Surpac, or Datamine.
• Strong understanding of mine surveying, drilling, blasting, and load-and-haul operations.
• Knowledge of mine safety regulations and environmental compliance.
• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
