Senior Agronomist - Crop Management

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Agronomist to join their dynamic team in Johannesburg . This pivotal role focuses on developing and implementing advanced crop management strategies to optimize yields and ensure sustainable farming practices. You will be instrumental in advising farmers on best practices, new technologies, and pest/disease control measures. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of soil science, plant physiology, and agricultural economics, contributing significantly to the efficiency and profitability of agricultural operations within the region. This position offers the chance to make a tangible impact on the agricultural landscape of Gauteng and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive crop management plans tailored to specific soil types and climatic conditions.
• Conduct field trials and experiments to evaluate new crop varieties, fertilizers, and pesticides.
• Provide expert technical advice and training to farm managers and agricultural workers on best practices.
• Analyze soil and plant tissue samples to diagnose nutrient deficiencies and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
• Monitor crop health, identify pest and disease outbreaks, and implement effective integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
• Stay abreast of the latest research and technological advancements in agronomy and sustainable agriculture.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, or a related agricultural field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in agricultural research, extension, or farm management.
• Proven expertise in crop physiology , soil fertility management, and pest/disease control.
• Proficiency with agricultural software and data analysis tools for farm management.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel frequently across agricultural areas in and around Johannesburg .
