Mechanical Engineer

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Scope Analysis and Risk Assessment

• Review and develop a comprehensive understanding of client scope requirements, specifications, and project objectives.
• Conduct technical and commercial risk assessments during the tendering stage.
• Evaluate project opportunities, benefits, constraints, and associated risks to support informed bid/no-bid decisions.
• Identify potential engineering, operational, commercial, and safety risks and recommend mitigation strategies.

Technical Clarifications and Scope Definition

• Handle technical clarification during the tendering and execution phases.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to resolve ambiguities and ensure clear understanding of project requirements.
• Provide technical recommendations and alternative solutions where appropriate.
• Ensure all engineering assumptions and clarifications are properly documented.

Engineering Design and Technical Calculations

• Perform and review detailed engineering calculations and associated equipment.
• Ensure all designs comply with applicable engineering standards, industry codes, and client specifications.
• Validate design assumptions and technical deliverables to ensure engineering integrity and operational reliability.
• Provide technical leadership in solving complex engineering challenges.

Cost Estimation and Pricing Support

• Perform engineering calculations required for accurate project costing and tender submissions.
• Support estimating teams with technical input for pricing and budgeting.
• Review quantities, equipment specifications, and design requirements to ensure accurate cost estimations.
• Contribute to value engineering initiatives that improve project competitiveness and profitability.

Conveyor Design Optimization

• Lead the optimization of conveyor systems to enhance performance, reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives in conveyor design and engineering methodologies.
• Develop solutions that provide a competitive advantage while maintaining compliance with project requirements.
• Evaluate alternative technologies and engineering approaches to maximize project value.

Data Sheet Development and Vendor Engagement

• Develop comprehensive technical data sheets and equipment specifications for procurement purposes.
• Liaise with suppliers and vendors to obtain technical and commercial proposals.
• Evaluate vendor submissions for technical compliance and suitability.
• Support procurement teams during technical bid evaluations and vendor selection processes.

Technical Compliance and Bid Adjudication

• Assist estimators and project teams in the adjudication of supplier and subcontractor bids.
• Ensure selected suppliers and contractors comply with project technical requirements and specifications.
• Participate in technical review meetings and recommendation processes.

Project Execution and Engineering Governance

• Ensure final engineering calculations and designs comply with approved project requirements and client specifications.
• Provide ongoing engineering support throughout the project lifecycle.
• Monitor engineering deliverables to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards.
• Support project managers in achieving project objectives, schedules, and budgets.

Drawing Office and Quality Assurance

• Ensure design outputs produced by the drawing office align with engineering requirements and project standards and provide guidance where necessary.
• Review and approve drawings before release for internal squad checking and external distribution.

Vendor Information Validation

• Review and verify vendor drawings, documentation, and technical information.
• Ensure supplier information is accurate, complete, and suitable for integration into project designs.
• Coordinate closely with procurement, engineering, and drafting teams to support efficient project execution.

Site Support and Commissioning

• Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, commissioning, and project handover activities.
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving site-related engineering issues.
• Participate in commissioning activities to verify system performance and functionality.
• Ensure installations meet design intent, performance criteria, and client expectations.

Leadership and Mentoring

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, and engineering teams.
• Promote engineering best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement.
