Construction Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a diligent and knowledgeable Construction Safety Officer to ensure a safe working environment across all their projects in the Polokwane area. This role is paramount in upholding the highest standards of health and safety on construction sites, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for implementing safety policies, conducting inspections, delivering training, and investigating incidents. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction site hazards and a proactive approach to promoting a safety-first culture, critical for projects in the Limpopo province.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive health and safety plans for construction sites.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Provide safety training and toolbox talks to site personnel and subcontractors.
• Maintain accurate safety records, including inspection reports, training logs, and incident documentation.
• Advise project management on health and safety matters and promote a positive safety culture.

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC).
• Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Safety Officer in the construction industry.
• Thorough knowledge of South African OHS Act and construction regulations.
• Excellent communication, reporting, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple sites.
• Certification in First Aid and relevant safety qualifications are advantageous.
