Electrical Engineering Manager - Utilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Electrical Engineering Manager to lead their utility services division in Bloemfontein . This senior management position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of electrical engineering operations, including planning, design, construction, and maintenance of power distribution and transmission infrastructure. You will lead a team of dedicated electrical engineers and technicians, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of services to the community. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of utility operations, and a commitment to excellence. This is a key role driving strategic initiatives and operational improvements within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers and technical staff, fostering professional growth and performance.


• Oversee the planning, design, and execution of electrical infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to budget and schedule.


• Develop and implement strategic plans for grid expansion, modernization, and maintenance programs.


• Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, safety standards, and environmental regulations.


• Manage relationships with external stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers.


• Lead efforts in adopting new technologies and best practices to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.


• Oversee the development and management of the department's budget.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.


• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the utility sector , with at least 5 years in a management or supervisory role.


• Extensive knowledge of power distribution and transmission systems, substation operations, and protection schemes.


• Proven track record in project management, budget control, and team leadership.


• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and environmental compliance.


• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration is highly preferred.
