Legal Advisor - Compliance & Risk

About the Role

Our client is seeking a diligent Legal Advisor focusing on Compliance & Risk management to join their fully remote team. This position is critical for ensuring the company operates within the bounds of all applicable laws and regulations, and for proactively identifying and mitigating potential legal risks. You will play a key role in developing and implementing compliance programs, advising on regulatory changes, and fostering a culture of compliance across the organization. This role is perfect for a detail-oriented legal professional who excels in a remote work environment and possesses a strong understanding of corporate governance and risk management principles.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain robust compliance programs and policies.
• Monitor changes in relevant legislation and regulations and advise on their impact.
• Conduct compliance training sessions for employees across various departments.
• Investigate potential compliance breaches and recommend corrective actions.
• Assess and manage legal risks associated with business operations and new initiatives.
• Advise on data privacy regulations (e.g., POPIA) and ensure adherence.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney with at least 5 years of experience in compliance, risk management, or regulatory law.
• Strong knowledge of South African regulatory frameworks and corporate governance principles.
• Experience in developing and implementing compliance policies and procedures.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex legal documents.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively in a remote setting.
• High level of integrity and ethical conduct.
