Senior Geologist - Mining Operations

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the mining sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to join their operational team in Pietermaritzburg . This crucial role involves leading geological exploration, resource estimation, and mine planning activities to ensure the efficient and sustainable extraction of valuable mineral resources. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological mapping, sampling, and analysis to identify and delineate ore bodies.
• Develop and implement exploration programs, including core logging, assay interpretation, and geochemical surveys.
• Create and maintain geological models and resource estimates using specialized software.
• Collaborate with mine engineers and production teams to optimize extraction plans and minimize geological risks.
• Prepare comprehensive geological reports, technical presentations, and documentation for regulatory compliance and internal stakeholders.
• Mentor junior geologists and technicians, fostering a culture of learning and high performance within the geological department.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology or a related earth science discipline.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in exploration geology , preferably within the mining industry.
• Proficiency in geological modeling software such as Leapfrog, Vulcan, or similar platforms.
• Strong understanding of deposit types, mineralogy , and structural geology relevant to South African mining.
• Experience with various exploration techniques, including geophysical surveys and drilling programs.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
