Application Engineer – Smart Manufacturing - Johannesburg, Gauteng

POSITION INFO:
We are looking for an experienced Application Engineer to join a growing smart manufacturing environment, working across both Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT).

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and supporting industrial applications, SCADA/HMI solutions, databases, APIs and system integrations that enable secure and reliable data flow between shop-floor systems and enterprise platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy and maintain secure and scalable industrial software applications
• Develop HMI screens and SCADA logic
• Integrate PLCs, DCS systems, historians, databases and IIoT platforms
• Design and maintain relational databases and optimise SQL queries
• Implement APIs and messaging interfaces between industrial control systems, IIoT, MOM, ERP and analytics environments
• Test and troubleshoot applications, SCADA systems, databases and system integrations
• Assist with OT connectivity and infrastructure troubleshooting
• Support OT/IT architecture, networking and secure implementation practices
• Maintain accurate technical documentation

Requirements

• Minimum 2+ years’ industrial automation experience
• Hands-on experience with PLC, SCADA, DCS or similar industrial platforms
• Proficiency in Python, C# or Java
• Working knowledge of SQL
• Experience working with databases, APIs or industrial messaging protocols
• Practical SCADA/HMI development and PLC/DCS integration experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
• Valid driver’s licence
• Willingness to travel locally and internationally

Advantageous Exposure

Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:
OPC UA, MQTT, REST APIs, IIoT, edge/cloud technologies, IP addressing, VLANs, IEC 62443, ISA-95, ISO 9001, DevOps or DevSecOps.
Project exposure within FMCG, mining, water or manufacturing environments would also be advantageous.

Package

CTC: R30,000 – R35,000 per month
Travel Allowance: R5,000 – R8,000
Medical Aid Contribution: R3,000 – R4,500 employer contribution
Standby Allowance: R200 per day
Additional Benefits: Petrol card and cell phone as per company policy
