We supply and install specialised equipment on commercial and institutional building projects across South Africa and into Africa. Our work runs alongside main contractors, architects and consulting engineers, which means the drawings have to be right and someone has to be on site making sure the installation matches them. This role is roughly half drawing office and half site. You will produce and maintain the drawing set for a project, then follow it through to installation, snagging and handover.
What you will do
Drawing office
Produce equipment layouts, general arrangement drawings and elevations from bills of quantities, specifications and consultant drawings
Draw services and reticulation drawings showing points of connection for electrical, water, gas, drainage, compressed air and extraction
Coordinate the equipment layout against architectural, structural, HVAC and wet services drawings, and flag clashes early
Issue revisions under proper drawing control, keep the register current and mark up as-builts
Prepare builder's work drawings, plinth and cut-out details, and shop drawings for fabricated items
Take site measurements before manufacture and check openings, levels and access before delivery
Attend site and technical meetings with the main contractor, consultants and subcontractors
Coordinate deliveries, offloading, storage and the installation sequence against the construction programme
Supervise installation teams and subcontractors on site, and check work against the approved drawings
Run snag lists through to close-out and report progress, delays and variations back to the office
What you need
National Diploma, N-Diploma or equivalent qualification in draughting, mechanical drawing or a related discipline
3 to 7 years' experience in a draughting or technical coordination role
Construction site experience is essential. You must be comfortable on an active building site, working to a contractor's programme, and dealing with consultants and subcontractors directly
Strong AutoCAD skills. Revit or other BIM experience is a real advantage
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and services drawings
Working knowledge of SANS and local building regulations as they apply to services and installations
Competent in Excel, and comfortable with a project programme in MS Project or similar
Valid driver's licence and own reliable vehicle - Willing to travel within South Africa, and occasionally cross-border, for site visits and installations
Advantageous
Experience coordinating equipment or plant installations as part of a larger construction contract
Experience on hospitality, healthcare, retail or institutional projects
Health and safety training (SACPCMP registration, working at heights, first aid)
Exposure to stainless steel fabrication or sheet metal work
Organised, direct, and able to run several projects at different stages without losing track of revisions
