Introduction
Kwena Human Capital is recruiting an experiencedEnvironmental & Permits Officerto join theRedstone PV + BESS Project, comprising a19 MWp Solar PV plant and 30 MWh / 4-hour BESS.
This is an opportunity to be part of a utility-scale renewable energy project coveringdesign, construction, commissioning and close-out. We are looking for professionals with strong relevant project experience who are comfortable working in afull-time, site-based environmentand operating within a multidisciplinary project team.
Duties & Responsibilities
Candidate's Scope of Work
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing the duties associated with their appointed discipline and supporting the successful delivery of the Redstone PV + BESS project.
Depending on the position, responsibilities may include:
Project Execution
- Supporting the project team in delivering works according to the approved programme, specifications and project requirements.
- Coordinating activities with other disciplines, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
- Monitoring progress and identifying potential delays or constraints.
- Ensuring activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
Technical / Engineering
- Reviewing drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Supporting design close-out and resolution of technical queries/RFIs where applicable.
- Coordinating technical interfaces between PV, electrical, BESS, SCADA/PTMC and other disciplines.
- Providing technical support during construction, testing and commissioning.
Construction
- Supervising and coordinating site activities within the relevant discipline.
- Managing work fronts and subcontractor activities.
- Ensuring materials and equipment are available when required.
- Monitoring productivity, progress and workmanship.
Quality
- Ensuring works comply with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs and quality requirements.
- Supporting inspections, punch-list activities and close-out.
- Maintaining accurate project records and as-built documentation.
HSE
- Complying with project HSE requirements and South African legislation.
- Participating in risk assessments, toolbox talks and site inspections.
- Exercising stop-work authority where applicable.
- Promoting a strong safety culture throughout the project.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Degree / National Diploma in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or a related environmental discipline.
- 3–5 years' relevant environmental experience, preferably within construction, infrastructure, mining, renewable energy or EPC projects.
- Proven experience in environmental compliance monitoring and reporting.
- Practical experience managing or monitoring compliance with Environmental Authorisations (EA).
- Practical experience with Water Use Licence (WULA) requirements and compliance.
- Knowledge of Environmental Management Programmes (EMPr) and environmental compliance conditions.
- Experience coordinating or reviewing ECO reports and conducting environmental inspections.
- Experience maintaining environmental compliance registers and tracking corrective actions.
- Experience monitoring contractor and subcontractor environmental compliance.
- Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
- Experience working with environmental consultants, ECOs, contractors and project management teams.
- Solar PV / renewable energy project experience will be highly advantageous.
- Strong report-writing, administrative and organisational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Must be willing to work full-time on site.
