Legal Counsel - Commercial Law

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dynamic and resourceful Legal Counsel to join their established legal department in East London . This role focuses on providing comprehensive legal support for the company's commercial operations, including contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution. You will work closely with business leaders to understand their needs and provide practical, legally sound advice to facilitate business objectives. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strong foundation in commercial law, capable of managing a diverse range of legal issues within the vibrant economic landscape of the Eastern Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, including supplier agreements, service contracts, and partnership agreements.
• Advise on compliance with relevant laws and regulations impacting business operations.
• Assist in the management of litigation and dispute resolution matters, working with external counsel.
• Conduct legal research and provide opinions on various commercial legal issues.
• Support business development activities by providing legal input on new ventures and opportunities.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of commercial law and industry trends.

Requirements

• Admitted attorney with a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience in commercial law.
• Proven experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Solid understanding of South African commercial law and related regulatory frameworks.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to provide clear, concise legal advice.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively within the East London office.
