Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team based in Upington . This role is integral to the design, development, and optimization of mechanical components and systems, driving innovation and ensuring product excellence. You will take a lead role in the engineering process, from conceptualization through to production, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in mechanical principles, advanced CAD skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions within the Northern Cape region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies using advanced CAD software .
• Perform detailed engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration calculations, to ensure design integrity.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are optimized for production feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and Bill of Materials (BOMs).
• Conduct design reviews, identify potential issues, and implement solutions to enhance product performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance throughout the design and development phases.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and basic FEA tools.
• Strong understanding of material science, manufacturing processes, and system dynamics.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Proven ability to manage design projects and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
