Electrical Design Technician - Renewable Energy

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Electrical Design Technician to support their growing operations in the renewable energy sector, based in Stellenbosch . You will work closely with electrical engineers to produce detailed design drawings, schematics, and documentation for solar PV and other renewable energy systems. This hybrid role combines essential in-office design work with potential for remote project coordination. You will play a vital role in the design phase of projects that contribute to a sustainable energy future.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce electrical schematics, layouts, and wiring diagrams for solar PV systems using CAD software.
• Assist in the design of balance of system components, including inverters, combiners, and mounting structures.
• Prepare bills of materials and technical specifications for electrical components.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical standards, building codes, and renewable energy regulations.
• Support project engineers with technical documentation and project coordination.
• Conduct basic site assessments and review installation plans for electrical components.

Requirements

• National Diploma or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 2-4 years of experience in electrical design, preferably in the renewable energy or construction industry.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience with solar design software (e.g., PVSyst, Helioscope) is advantageous.
• Understanding of DC and AC electrical systems, particularly in a solar context.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate drafting.
