Job Overview


The Financial Risk Analyst will play a pivotal role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks across FirstRand’s portfolio of products and services. Reporting to the Head of Risk Management, the analyst will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop risk models, conduct stress testing, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and maintain quantitative risk models for credit, market, and operational risk exposures.

  • Perform regular stress testing and scenario analysis to evaluate potential impacts on the bank’s financial position.

  • Monitor risk indicators and produce comprehensive risk reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.

  • Collaborate with product teams to embed risk considerations into product design and pricing strategies.

  • Ensure adherence to Basel III, IFRS 9, and local regulatory requirements throughout risk assessment processes.

  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to mitigate identified risks and improve risk‑adjusted performance.

  • Support the continuous improvement of risk management frameworks and tools through innovative analytical techniques.


Required Skills



  • Advanced proficiency in statistical analysis and financial modeling using Excel, VBA, Python, or R.

  • Strong understanding of banking regulations, Basel III, and IFRS 9 standards.

  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking abilities.

  • Effective communication skills for presenting complex risk concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross‑functional teams and manage multiple priorities.

  • Detail‑oriented mindset with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.


Education


A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.


Experience


Candidates must possess at least five years of relevant experience in financial risk analysis, credit risk assessment, or a similar role within a banking or financial services environment. Demonstrated experience in developing risk models, conducting stress tests, and preparing regulatory reports is essential. Experience with data visualization tools and exposure to big data environments will further strengthen an applicant’s profile.


Salary


The successful candidate will receive a competitive annual salary ranging from SSP 350,000 to SSP 500,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to the base salary, performance‑based bonuses and long‑term incentive plans are available to reward exceptional contributions.
