Introduction

The Technical Facilitator: Electrical & Solar is responsible for the effective delivery of technical training and skills development to interns, apprentices, learners and beneficiaries within the Electrical and Solar disciplines.

The incumbent is responsible for facilitating learning, conducting assessments and moderations, supporting learners in meeting practical and theoretical training requirements, and ensuring that training is delivered in accordance with applicable accreditation, curriculum, logbook, quality, health and safety and organisational requirements.

The role requires a technically competent individual who can facilitate training in Electrical and/or Solar-related disciplines, depending on operational and learner requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Financial Performance

  • Report faulty equipment, tools and/or venue infrastructure to the Senior Facilitator or Training Centre Manager.
  • Assist the Senior Facilitator with cost containment and responsible use of training materials, equipment and consumables.
  • Ensure responsible and efficient utilisation of training resources.
  • Minimise unnecessary wastage of electrical, solar and other technical training consumables.

2. Business Processes

  • Prepare and implement training plans in accordance with learner requirements and approved training programmes.
  • Prepare, develop and maintain appropriate learning and training materials for Electrical and Solar-related programmes.
  • Facilitate theoretical and practical learning in classrooms, workshops and other approved training environments.
  • Facilitate technical training programmes as required.
  • Deliver practical demonstrations and supervised practical training relating to electrical and solar systems, where qualified and authorised to do so.
  • Ensure learners comply with attendance, registration and training requirements, including the accurate completion and signing of registers.
  • Prepare and conduct assessments in accordance with approved assessment requirements.
  • Prepare and conduct moderations as required and within the scope of the incumbent's assessor/moderator authorisation.
  • Provide learners with appropriate feedback on assessment and practical performance.
  • Monitor learner progress and identify learners requiring additional technical support.
  • Ensure learner logbooks, portfolios, assessment records and other required documentation are accurately completed.
  • Accurately and timeously complete all departmental and organisational documentation.
  • Maintain accurate learner and training records, including applicable SETA documentation where required.
  • Ensure manual and electronic filing systems, matrices and training records are maintained and backed up in accordance with departmental requirements.
  • Ensure all training equipment, tools and work areas are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Attend relevant departmental, operational and stakeholder meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with Resolution Circle policies, procedures, Health & Safety requirements and applicable ISO/QMS requirements.
  • Report incidents, unsafe conditions, defective equipment and other risks immediately through the appropriate channels.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties and instructions relating to the position.

3. Stakeholder Satisfaction

  • Provide professional technical support and guidance to learners throughout the training programme.
  • Visit learners and clients at relevant operational sites when required.
  • Liaise professionally with learners, clients, supervisors, assessors, moderators and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on learner progress, evaluations, practical performance and general learner development.
  • Provide timely feedback regarding learner challenges, technical gaps and areas requiring intervention.
  • Contribute to maintaining a positive, professional and supportive learning environment.
  • Address learner queries within the scope of the position and elevate matters requiring management intervention.

4. Learning & Growth

  • Attend Resolution Circle, departmental and stakeholder meetings, workshops and training sessions to remain informed of relevant developments.
  • Keep abreast of developments in Electrical, Solar PV, renewable energy, technical training and occupational skills development.
  • Maintain and continuously improve own technical knowledge and facilitation skills.
  • Plan and manage own learning and development activities to support effective execution of responsibilities.
  • Participate in problem-solving discussions and contribute ideas that support innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Share relevant technical knowledge and good practices with colleagues and learners.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of training materials, procedures and systems.
  • Act as a custodian of own and departmental knowledge and information to support long-term personal, team and organisational growth.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Matric / Grade 12 or N3 qualification.
  • Trade Certificate (Red Seal) and/or relevant technical qualification in Electrical.
  • Valid PV Green Card – Compulsory.
  • Solar PV training or relevant Solar PV industry experience – Preferable.
  • Qualified SME / Registered Assessor and Moderator.
  • Train-the-Trainer / Facilitator Certificate.
  • Minimum 3 years' relevant technical experience, preferably in a training environment.
  • Practical experience in electrical installations, maintenance, fault finding and/or Solar PV systems.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to create a motivational learning environment and motivate learners.
  • Good time-management and organisational skills.
  • Good customer and stakeholder relationship skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant occupational-specific legislation, engineering requirements, SAQA requirements and applicable standards.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and regulations.
  • Knowledge of quality management requirements, including ISO principles.
  • Good report-writing and supervisory skills.
  • Team player, results driven, proactive and able to take initiative.
