About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the power utility sector, is seeking a motivated and eager Junior Electrical Engineer to join their team in Soweto. This role is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to gain hands‑on experience in the design, operation, and maintenance of electrical power infrastructure. You will work under the guidance of senior engineers, contributing to projects related to power distribution, network upgrades, and system reliability. This position requires a dedicated on‑site presence to learn practical engineering skills and contribute directly to the operational needs of the utility. You'll be part of a team committed to providing essential energy services to the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers in the design and planning of electrical distribution networks, including overhead lines and underground cables.
  • Conduct site inspections and surveys to gather data for network analysis and improvement projects.
  • Support the maintenance and operational teams by troubleshooting electrical faults and proposing solutions.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including reports, drawings, and specifications, under supervision.
  • Participate in the testing and commissioning of new electrical equipment and installations.
  • Learn and apply industry standards and safety procedures relevant to power utility operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Recent graduate or up to 3 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably related to power systems.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental electrical engineering principles, particularly in power distribution.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and safety standards is a plus.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including MS Office.
  • Exposure to AutoCAD or other design software is advantageous.
  • Strong willingness to learn, good communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
